Application Status of CAD/CAM Technology for Metal Stamping Die

In recent years, the level of stamping dies in China has been greatly improved. Large stamping dies have been able to produce a single set of more than 50 tons of weight of the mold. For mid-range cars supporting the cover mold can also be produced in China. The multi-position progressive die with precision of 1 ~ 2μm and service life of about 0.2 billion times has been produced by many domestic enterprises. The fine-punching die with surface roughness of Ra≦ 1.5μm, large-size (Φ≧ 300mm) fine-punching die and medium-thickness plate fine-punching die have also reached a fairly high level in China.
 
Technical Status of Die CAD/CAM
 
The development of mold CAD/CAM technology in China has a history of more than 20 years. The fine-stamping die CAD/CAM system jointly completed by the former Huazhong Institute of Technology and Wuhan 733 Factory in 1984 is the first self-developed die CAD/CAM system in China. The cold die CAD/CAM system jointly completed by Huazhong Institute of Technology and Beijing Mould Factory in 1986 is the first blanking die CAD/CAM system developed by China. The cold die CAD/CAM system developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University was also completed in the same year. Since the 1990 s, CAD/CAM technology has been used in mold design and manufacturing in the domestic automobile industry. The State Science and Technology Commission 863 plans to use Dongfeng Motor Company as a CIMS application demonstration factory and Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a technical support unit. The CAD/CAPP/CAM integrated system for automobile body and panel dies developed by the company passed the appraisal in early 1996. During this period, FAW and Chengfei Automobile Die Center introduced workstations and CAD/CAM software systems, and applied them in die design and manufacturing, and achieved significant benefits. In 1997, FAW introduced CAE software for computer simulation of sheet metal forming process and began to use it in production.
 
Since the beginning of the 21st century, CAD/CAM technology has gradually become popular, and now has a certain production capacity of stamping die enterprises basically have CAD/CAM technology. Some of the backbone key enterprises also have various CAE capabilities.
 
Mold CAD/CAM technology can significantly shorten the mold design and manufacturing cycle, reduce production costs, improve product quality, has become a consensus. During the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" and "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, a large number of mold enterprises have popularized computer graphics technology, the utilization rate of numerical control processing is also getting higher and higher, and a considerable number of CAD/CAM systems have been introduced. For example, UG of EDS in the United States, Pro/Engineer of ParametricTechnology Company in the United States, CADS5 of CV Company in the United States, DOCT5 of DELCAM Company in the United Kingdom, CRADE and space-E of HZS Company in Japan, and Cimatron of Israeli Company have also introduced software such as AutoCAD and CATIA and special software such as Euclid-IS used by Marta-Daravision Company in France for automobile and cover molds. CAD/CAM technology is widely used in domestic automobile panel mold manufacturers. The design of DL drawing and the design of mold structure diagram have realized two-dimensional CAD, and most enterprises have transitioned to three-dimensional, and the general drawing production has gradually replaced the part drawing production. And the parametric design of the mold also began to move towards the field of technology development of a few mold manufacturers.
